This Kashmir earthquake (also known as the South Asia earthquake or Pakistan earthquake) occurred at 08:50:38 on October 8, 2005.It happened in the north Pakistan area.The earthquake occur as it is in the zones of weakness within the interior of a plate.It registered a minimum magnitude of 7.6 on the moment magnitude scale making it a major earthquake.
Human Impact &the extent of damages
An estimation of 3.3 million people was left homeless.Most of the people affected were living in the mountainous regions.And also More than 4 million people were directly affected,due to the winter snowfall in the Himalayan region.The damages that were cause cost an estimation of over USD 5 billion.Some other damages that were cause are completely wiping out the entire villages and towns in the Northern Pakistan.Last but not least other surrounding areas also suffered damages. Upon knowing this , the government opened 5 crossing points between India and Pakistan to facilitate the flow of reducing suffering,improving the conditions that people live in and medical aid to affected region. My reflection is that since earthquake is and natural disaster ,nothing can be done to minimize damages from earthquake even though the technology now day are good.But instead we can practice how to protect our self and not get hurt so easily.
